The plan to Rock n Roll through 2016

Last June, I ran my first 1/2 marathon – San Diego Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon – and it was fantastic! I ran with a good friend and we both had that runner’s high that you get after finishing a race so we decided we’d do the Las Vegas RnR 1/2 marathon in November. For health reasons we ended up doing the 5k/10k remix in Las Vegas but by the time I finished those 15k, I had decided I wanted to run a lot more races in 2016 and I was going to do the Rock n Roll series. There are hundreds of races out there so choosing which to run is a nightmare so that’s where RnR is great. For $479 I can buy the TourPass Global and register for any and every race I want, no extra cost. (Also, it’s great marketing because, as you know, I’m a travel-aholic.) And then for the most important reason – they have great bling and they have reward bling for brand/series loyal runners because you know we all really #runforthebling 🙂

After way more hours than I should have spent on deciding which races to run here’s my plan to Rock n Roll through 2016:

(March 20, San Diego Hot Chocolate 15k)

April 03, San Francisco 1/2 Marathon

June 04-05, San Diego 5k and 1/2 Marathon

— August 7, Dublin, Ireland 1/2 Marathon — (potential based on work projects)

October 01-02, San Jose 5k and 1/2 Marathon

November 12-13, Las Vegas 5k and 1/2 Marathon

So, that’s the wish list! Not too over-reaching (if I get too over-eager I may add one more)and projects for work may force me to change some races based on time conflicts but that’s another benefit of the Global Pass – I’m not out any money for having to change my races. The only other hitch in my grand plan is that I registered for all of these races on a Thursday night and Friday morning (in early February) I went to the podiatrist for a general check-up as part of my “new patient intake” thinking he’d just check me off the list. He told me no running for 6 weeks… then I could start with run/walk training and eventually work up to 1/2 marathon training again because I had sensitive points on my plantar band…

I like to respect my body and think long term about my health and physical abilities so since I’m not trying to qualify for the Olympics or make money running, I’ve heeded his advice and adjusted my expectations and goals for each race. I’ll be walk/jog-ing the Hot Chocolate 15k with my running buddy and hopefully taking a little time off that pace for the SF1/2. By the SD1/2 my goal is to run the entire 1/2 in under 2:30 which is the exact time I finished in 2015. By LV1/2 I want to have my time down to 2:00 but I’m waiting to see where I am on March 20.

As a side note, I originally wanted to do the Chicago 1/2 in July as well but it’s the same weekend as my second Tough Mudder, which I organized with family and friends after having a fantastic and challenging experience at the Tahoe Tough Mudder 2015!
